How it Works:

If you have a battery backup system in your home or business you can share power with the grid during times that it is needed for the community. You will make substantially more money than normal grid sell-back through this program, and you will be contributing to the grid’s increased stability in these areas while doing so. This is a 5-year contract, with a 5-year renewal. (If you choose you can opt out at any time)

This VPP (Virtual Power Plant) program is called “Connected Solutions”. When there's a huge demand and the utility does not have enough power they would normally have to reach out to their partner power plants that charge a high price for this emergency energy. With this program, the utility can now gain power from homeowners like you. Due to the cost savings, they offer you a high ongoing incentive rebate every year. Below you will find typical system sizes and the estimated payments you can receive.

How much will my battery be utilized?

The program is an annual rebate to the customer based on how much the customer's battery can be utilized by the utility company during a power shortage event. The Utility will send an electronic message via the Internet to the customer's battery system when power is needed. These events will happen up to 30 to 60 times during the months of June thru September. The customer's battery will not be used during cold weather or during holidays or when a storm is approaching, so the customer will always have a full battery during those times in case they need battery backup for their home. These power shortage events are typically during an extra hot afternoon causing heavy A/C power usage. Each power crisis event lasts from 2-3 hours and will occur between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The performance of the customer's battery system is monitored during the event to see how many kW the battery can sustain for assisting the grid, and an average kW performance is calculated for each event. "Based on the average KW provided by your battery system for the various events over the year, the utility will issue an annual reimbursement check at the going rate per kW.
